City District Government Lahore (CDGL) Administrator and District Coordination Officer (DCO) Noor ul Amin Mengal has issued a notification imposing ban on all such activities that affect the rights of the people, including smoking, in the provincial capital.
The notification issued by the CDGL administrator the other day says: “In exercise of the powers conferred upon me under NO SOR (LG) 39-6/2008 dated 24.02.2010 read with powers conferred under section 179-A (2) and 18 of Punjab Local Government Ordinance-2001, and in pursuance of section 39 (U) of Punjab Local Government Ordinance, 2001, the public places are hereby defined as under for the information of the general public and enforcement of relevant laws in the public interest.
Any place of public work or use includes restaurants, eating places, cafes, public festival gathering sites, Sunday Bazaars, cattle markets, public parks, recreational sites, markets, bazaars, bus stands, public waiting sites and the places used by such organisations whether bounded or unbounded and spaces of commercial buildings left open including rooftops.
Any building, premise or place to which the public have access.
Any space specified for public gathering for the time being or temporarily.
All such activities resulting in nuisance, annoyance, health / safety / welfare risks for the general public are hereby prohibited / banned at public places including smoking in any form, encroachments, immoral activities and other such activities affecting the rights of the public at large.
