KUWAIT CITY, Feb 6: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor on Monday started receiving applications for the transfer of commercial visit visas to work permits for expatriate employees under government contracts and hold university degrees, reports Al-Mostaqbal daily quoting Assistant Undersecretary for Labor Affairs Jamal Al-Dousari.
Meanwhile, reliable sources revealed the ministry intends to amend the conditions for such transfers after the formation of the new government. Sources said the local labor market does not need additional expatriate workers.
Sources confirmed the ministry remains committed to its goal to increase the percentage of Kuwaitis in the labor force from 31 to 34 percent by 2014. Sources added the ministry also opened the door for the issuance of work permits in vital sectors to guarantee that there is enough manpower for the implementation of the development plan.
