Pak Army XI thrash British XI

RAWALPINDI – Pakistan Army XI thrashed British Army team by 125 runs in the One-day match played here at Army cricket ground on Tuesday.

Pakistan skipper Babar Nawaz after winning the toss opted to bat first and scored 323 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted overs. Mir Azam and Babar Nawaz collected 164 runs for the opening stand and helped Army XI post 223/5 in allotted 40 overs, Mir Azam continued his good form with the willow and scored brilliant 88 with 12 fours and one six off 74 deliveries. Skipper Babar Nawaz also batted brilliantly and top scored 93-ball 91 studied with 10 boundaries and one six of while Sanaullah slammed quickfire 62 of 38 balls laced with 9 boundaries and Shafiq-ur-Rehman remained unbeaten on 27.

Brannon Variey was the pick of British Army XI bowlers with 3 for 52 while Jonathan Boynton and skipper Jacques Prinsloo got one wicket each.

British Army started their innings at a positive note and posted 40 runs in the first 5 overs but they suffered the first loss when Russell was needlessly ran himself out while stealing a cheeky single that was not there and team’s total was 42. The second wicket fell at 58 and then British Army XI started losing wickets at regular intervals. It felt that the British Army XI players succumbed to heavy total’s pressure and were bowled out for 198 in 33.4 overs.

Daniel Webb remained their top scorer with a stylish 60 studied with 8 boundaries while Sherwin Govender also batted well for his 34 runs with seven fours.

Moin Sabir ripped through British Army batting and grabbed 5 for 23 in 5.4 overs. The match commissioner former Test player Col (r) Naushad Ali declared Moin Sabir man of the match for his brilliant bowling.

Lt Gen Azhar Rasheed HI (M) was the chief guest on the occasion while Brig Illingworth, President British Army Cricket Association, Brig Iqtidar Naseer, Director Army Sports, Col Qasier Mustafa, Col Mohsin Ali, Col Waseem, Director Media along with other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

The stadium was packed to capacity with the families of Army personnel, athletes and students of different schools appreciated both teams performances throughout the day.
