The exciting, thrilling and full of excitement, 2nd Kuwait International Rally Championship came to its end today. It was a 3 day event and kicked off on last Thursday at Safir Hotel International, Fintas. Total 27 Teams from Kuwait, Qatar, Saudia, Jordan, UAE, Lebanon, Turkey & Europe registered for the events and finally 25 Teams took part in the rally. sadly 2 teams were dropped due to some technical issues.
The Rally was organized by the Kuwait Quarter Mile Auto & Motorcycle Club in Cooperation with Kuwait International Automobile Club (KIAC) under the patronage of Sheikh Nasser Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, took place in the Jlai’ah and Bnaidar areas south of the Kuwait. The teams covered a total of 709 kilometers in 2 days with each day seeing six periods. There were twelve special stages in the rally covering a total distance of 235.38 km.
Sheikh Athbi Al-Nayef Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is the Chairman of the Rally’s Organizing Committee.
After the commendable efforts, today Qatar’s Khalid Al Suwaidi secured the Victory in the Kuwait rally after 12 stages of utter excitement. Al Suwaidi was followed by veteran Abdullah Al Qassimi and Misfer Al Marri. Kuwaiti driver Saleh Bin Eidan finished 4th and Nick Georgiou from Lebanon finished 5th.
At the time of Inaugration, on the relationship between KIAC, Kuwait Quarter Mile Auto and Moto cycle Club and the International Automobile Federation (FIA), CEO of KIAC, Alfailakawi stated that KIAC is the only body from Kuwait formally recognized by the FIA. The KIAC in turn recognizes the Kuwait Quarter Mile Auto and Motor Cycle Club and so allows them to organize the rally events, pointing out that while the latter is national, KIAC is international and the two combining forces are organizing the second Kuwait International Rally.
