Kuwait – Pakistan Friendship Association recently celebrated jointly the national days of the State of Kuwait and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, which was attended by large number of Kuwaiti and Pakistani dignitaries.
The dignitaries who attended the event included the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Iftikhar Aziz, Amiri Diwan delegation headed by Sheikh Abdul Fahad Al Malik Al Sabah, Sheikh Abdullah Al Sabah, Sheikh Sabah Al Sabah, Sheikh Fahad Al Sabah, Syed Saleh Ashour – Member of Parliament, Syed Yousif Hashim Al Refai – Ex Minister of Awqaf, Abdul Illah Mohammad Rafie Marafie – Chief Patron Trustee Marafie Foundation, Dr. Sulaiman Shamsuddin – International Islamic Charitable Organization, Falah Khalid Al Mutairi – Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage, Professor Dr. Manaf Behehbahani – Kuwait University and Mohammad Saeed Al Refai.
The program started with the recitation of Holy Quran, followed by the national anthems of two nations. A welcome note was delivered by Saqib Aftab, Secretary General of KPFA who then gave the floor to Mohammad Hanif , Vice President of KPFA, who spoke on the significance of the day and conducted the program.
Speaking on the occasion the ambassador of Pakistan, Iftikhar Aziz congratulated all on the eve of National Days and lauded the strong ties between the two countries. He said both countries enjoys cordial relations and have commonality on many international issues. He also mentioned the role that Pakistan played in liberating Kuwait from the occupation of Iraqi forces. The ambassador also raised the issue of visa ban on Pakistanis and appealed to the Kuwaiti government to look into the matter on humanitarian basis. The ambassador also thanked the government of Kuwait for helping Pakistan in its worst flood crises in 2010. He congratulated the President and Executive Council of the Kuwait – Pakistan Friendship Association for conducting such activities.
Syed Yousuf Hashim Al Refai – Ex Minister of Awqaf, also spoke on the occasion and lauded the role of Pakistanis in the development of Kuwait. He also hailed the strong ties between two countries and congratulated all for celebrating jointly the National Days.
Patron KPFA, Lawyer Mubarak Sadoun Al Mutawa while congratulating the two communities on their National Days said that both countries have common culture, faith and both enjoy cordial relations in all aspects. He also thanked Pakistan for helping Kuwait in its liberation from Iraqi forces and said Pakistani community was playing an important role in the development of Kuwait.
Professor Dr. Manaf Behehbahani of Kuwait University also spoke on the occasion and mesmerized the audience with his light jokes. He also talked about Pakistan & Kuwait relations and congratulated all on the eve of National Days celebrations.
Professor Dr. Mohammad Afzal – Chairman Education Assistance Committee of KPFA gave a presentation on educational opportunities in Pakistan and requested the government of Kuwait to increase the quota of foreign students in Kuwait University.
Shields were presented to three Pakistanis and three Kuwaitis as recognition for excellence in respective areas.. Those who received the awards included, Faiz Mohyuddin for his valuable services in the field of sports, Yawar Maqsood – Arab Times for supporting the Pakistani cause in local media, Abdul Rehman Qureshi – Rumaythia School for his services in the field of education, Falah Khalid Al Mutairi – Jamia Ahya Al Tras Al Islamia for their help to Pakistan in 2005 earthquake, Mr. Aref Mohammed Ali – Kuwait Finance House for donating 2M$ towards flood victims of Pakistan in 2010, and Salah Othman Abdul Wahab Al Othman – Ex Kuwaiti Ambassador to Pakistan for writing a book on Pak-Kuwait relations.
The outgoing Community Welfare Attache at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Rab Nawaz Khan was also awarded a Shield for supporting the cause of the Pakistani Community in Kuwait.
The President of KPFA, Rana Ijaz towards the end of the program thanked all the dignitaries and congratulated the audience and Executive Council of KPFA on occasion of National Days.
In the end cake cutting ceremony was held which was followed by special prayers for Kuwait and Pakistan.
